What is Single Session Therapy (SST)?

Single Session Therapy (SST) is a form of therapy that involves just one session. It is a brief, solution-focused intervention designed to help individuals become more self-aware and empowered. 

It is important for you to have a clear goal for the session, such as identifying what you would like to change. The counselling approach during SST differs from longer-term therapy, as the focus is on a single session.

Focused and Flexible Therapy Options

However, if you feel that you would benefit from regular sessions after the initial session, this can be arranged. We will spend less time delving into your background and past compared to regular therapy, where multiple issues are addressed with ample time to explore their underlying causes and impact on your well-being, relationships, or life choices. 

Examining situations from different perspectives can sometimes alter your perception of the situation.

Who is it for?

ST is available for adults and young people aged 16 and over. It is particularly beneficial if you want to address a single issue, such as gaining clarity or exploring the roots of anxiety or behavioural patterns. SST is also suitable if you want to assess the effectiveness of your coping strategies and learn new ones.

Additionally, it can provide insight if you are unsure about therapy and want to experience what counselling is like. It can also be a time when you can talk things through in a confidential space.

Issues that can be addressed during SST include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress – Parenting
  • Life changes
  • Relationship issues
  • Behavioural issues
  • Overthinking
  • Poor self-esteem
  • Negative self-image
  • Weak or non-existent boundaries
  • Communication issues
